Album tracklist
  • 1.
    The Hidden Rainforest-Main Track-
    02:54
[Proud / Triumphant Positive Resolution] Uplifting, optimistic cut that instantly places you in the middle of a thriving, busy rainforest, small village or any natural setting. Starting small with a movement-laden bed of kalimba, string pads, percussion and dulcimer, an emotional climax @1:04 allows full orchestra, choir, more percussion and various tribal chanting to state the positive main theme forcefully and grandly. @2:06 the mix dissolves into a smaller mix, providing a swelling, shifting bed of strings as the percussion fades and the jungle settles into a peaceful night.
  • 2.
    Serene Savanna-Main Track-
    02:22
[Positive Percussive Proud / Reflective] A warm, cheerful bed of African hand percussion, swelling strings, brass and winds that gets progressively fuller (reaching its most positive feel @1:20), & provides an undercurrent of movement, allowing strong, percussive accents of positive, choral iterations of the main theme throughout (@:42, 1:40 and 1:50). Great for establishing shots of beautiful scenery and imparting a sense of well-being and happiness.
  • 3.
    Where Danger Lurks-Main Track-
    02:51
[Suspense Action] Dark, suspenseful and frightening cue in two parts. The Stalking: spare, unmetered percussion and gothic-sounding orchestra slowly build, littered with crescendos / hits that grow more frequent. The Chase: @1:43, mid-tempo, steady orchestral percussion begins building in size and speed underneath low voices, orchestral swells, timpani hits and brass / string lines until @2:17, when the mix starts a full-bore race to a dark climax @2:32.
  • 4.
    Killer Primal Instinct-Main Track-
    02:12
[Tension / Action Triumph] A hunter hunts his prey. A swelling, pitching sea of orchestral swells creates an air of tension / mystery until :22, when fast tempoed driving percussion, brass and strings create an action-filled build (with a few dramatic pauses) to a semi-triumphant choral iteration of the theme @1:27, suggesting that there might be a happy ending after all. @1:49, a darker, more suspenseful feel enters, building in tenor until the final hit @2:09.
  • 5.
    Passage to Greatness-Main Track-
    03:00
[Epic Emotion Proud Drama] Orchestra, snares and world percussion create a mid-tempo, movement-filled sad / neutral bed that grows more positive @1:14. @1:38 the cut gets bigger and more positive / percussive - and @2:02, even bigger / happier still. After a hit @2:26, the mix suddenly pares down significantly, letting a brief iteration of the main theme begin a slow fade out to a gentle, peaceful end.
  • 6.
    Exaltation-Main Track-
    03:01
[Positive Bed Triumph] An uplifting, orchestral cut with two hopeful, positive builds in one piece. A lilting bed of shakers and orchestral pads leads to a hit @:47, when world percussion and percussive vocal hits lead to a feel-good climax @1:18 (when choir, full orchestra and tons more percussion enter). The second build starts @1:48 with a bed of tribal chanting, kalimbas, winds and strings performing the main theme that progressively builds to a regal, overwhelmingly happy ending starting @2:42.
  • 7.
    Birth of a Notion-Main Track-
    02:37
[Reflective / Sad, Driving Drama] Opening with atmospheric booms and the whirring and clicking of computer hard drives, this cut uses news music samples, political acceptance speeches, a fragment of a speech by Mussolini, public protests, Hitler soundbites, contact mic'd springs and orchestral strings to create a surprisingly gentle "lullaby" - until 1:47, when a darker, distorted, driving drum loop transforms the cue into something gritty, angry and dramatic.
  • 8.
    Underground Movement-Main Track-
    03:26
[Angry Protest Beat w/ Breaks] Covering sections of the protests against the RNC, FTAA, etc, this cut uses DJ turntable-twisted samples of demonstrators, interviews, police cars, police radio transmissions and Moroccan Trance singers. Starting with garbled radio voices and static, a filtered drum loop and growing protest chants build into the main, driving, tribal rhythm @:30, featuring hand percussion and rhythmic protest chants, building in intensity @1:01. A series of big hits starting @2:56 end the cue.
  • 9.
    Green World-Main Track-
    01:45
[Mysterious / Desolate Atmosphere] Watercolor-ish, ambient, New Age-esque cut uses processed recordings of night frogs, wind noise, crickets, a simple gamelan melody and low, reverbed percussion to create a sensation of peace with an undercurrent of tension and creepiness. The tension increases @:32 when a garbled radio loop enters, disrupting the cut, and eventually overcomes the frogs / night sounds.
  • 10.
    Energy Crisis-Main Track-
    02:25
[Newsy / Dramatic / Newsy / Sad / Introspective] Symbolizing the ravaging of the earth through drilling & mining. Mechanical oil field drills, compressors, various news music, synth bass, reverbed snare drum, radio static, glockenspiel and orchestral strings create the feeling of sadness - but with an edge. Opening with the low drone / winding down of an oil drill, the rhythm kicks in @:12, followed by a lone-note piano melody @:24, which is eventually beat into submission by the rhythm. Sad string ending starts @1:37. This mid-tempo cut works for news, investigations and imparting a sense of loneliness and sad resolve.
  • 11.
    Afghani Heroin-Main Track-
    01:34
[Trippy Interludes] Trippy, dream-like lapses between reality and drug-induced hallucinations. What's the connection between heroin and Wall Street? This cue intercuts between sections of hazy, rhythmic, vocal loops starting @:23 (NY Stock Exchange floor and radio interviews), drug paraphernalia noises, processed "trading" bell hits, low reverbed drum hits / whooshes and a final "gasp" of awareness @1:18. Creepy, slightly suspenseful cut that works for any time you're trying to affect the sensations of a bad trip.
  • 12.
    The Sky Turned Black-Main Track-
    03:11
[Tense Sound Design Driving Sadness] Haunting, foreboding cut that uses snippets of airplanes' black box recordings of ill-fated flights, heartbeat-like loops of airplane ambience, machine gun cockings, samples of news music, orchestral strings and, @:29, a simple prepared piano figure that repeats throughout. Distorted, filtered drum breaks start @1:07 and trade back and forth with the theme. @1:45 the full mix begins with a more driving, questioning mood that makes the cut great for investigations and mysteries.
  • 13.
    Gift of Prophecy-Main Track-
    01:14
[Stop / Start Percussion, Tense Build Driving] Methodical, measured feel that suggests neutral-to-light drama and light tension. Heavily rhythmic, mid-tempo cut featuring a bed of hand percussion (darbuka, sheet metal, smashing bells and low, reverbed djembes) and decidedly Western-sounding delayed electric guitar (in @:06) and filtered synths (in @:26). @:46 the mix gets a bit bigger, imparting more tension and drive.
  • 14.
    Dropzone Arrival-Main Track-
    02:17
[Simple Mystical / Tense Bed] An establishing shot of someplace dark and dangerous. Slow build of tension and suspense, creating an air of mystery and intrigue. Bed-like drone featuring delayed tuned percussion, ney (reed flute) and low harmonium drones that pause briefly for a "ticking passage" @1:24, then continue the feel. The entire cut features flashes of sound design and melodic accents throughout.
  • 15.
    Standoff at the Souk-Main Track-
    01:04
[Fast, Neutral Moving Percussion] Uptempo, mostly percussive bed featuring a Berber-infused flute melody that begins the cut alone and is gradually joined by more percussion and instruments. After a ticking pause @:35, it explodes in a frenetic bed @:41 with tons of North African percussion (ta'arija, daf and brake drum) to give the impression of a bustling, thriving marketplace. Great for tense standoffs, light action, sports, comedies, and fast cutting.
  • 16.
    Tombouctou-Main Track-
    01:41
[Spare / Desolate with Drones and Solo Lotar] A neutral, atmospheric track depicting an arduous passage across the Sahara. A haunting drone supports a slow, introspective motif played on the lotar (a plucked, four-stringed instrument). You can practically feel the hot sun beat down as sporadic drum accents (such as shakers, chimes and distant drum hits) give visual edit points. Great for suggesting loneliness and/or desolation.
  • 17.
    Infiltrate and Extract-Main Track-
    02:07
[Spare / Tense Building Dramatic Percussive Hits] Great for suggesting that something dangerous is coming or for quick flashes of something bad. A shifting, low drone (played by ney and harmonium) denotes an undercurrent of risk as sporadic, stabbing, reversed drum hits (starting @:17) grow more frequent, busy and forceful. Ticking beds (e.g. @:37) underneath the hits provide an added dimension of tension / suspense. This cut varies the dynamics quite a bit, taking a dead-stop pause @1:06 and kicking into a more driving, fast-moving climax @1:47.
  • 18.
    Narrow Escape-Main Track-
    01:06
[Fast Percussive Action] Neutral / active percussion cut great for chases, incredibly fast cutting or even a bed for news. Fast-paced, frantic rhythmic bed featuring sheet metal, darbuka and bendir. This stop / start bed pauses for heartbeat-like measures @:09 and :39, and kicks into percussive overdrive @:51 as the cut builds to a climax @1:01.
  • 19.
    Sun and Majoon-Main Track-
    01:50
[Spare / Unnerving Driving Percussion] Dream-like ambient sound design of high-pitched dissonant tones (almost like the howling of wind) broken by distant explosions. The wind-like pads ebb and flow until a driving, mid-tempo, metal percussion bed (a loop of metal workers recorded in the Medina of Marrakesh) enters @1:07 and gives the impression of activity and movement.
  • 20.
    Way Through Trance-Main Track-
    02:18
[Mystical Tense Percussion] Eerie, mystical-sounding flutes (neys) amidst a low drone (harmonium), a strummed guimbri (North African stringed instrument) and growing bed of percussion (bendir) builds to a more dramatic, haunting feel starting @1:03. After the last hit @1:51 a fade-out begins and the rhythm is carried on by distant drums. Great for imparting a sense of wonder and awe - imagine a North African / Middle Eastern setting for Survivor.
  • 21.
    The River Gives Life-Main Track-
    01:42
[Neutral / Positive Active] Great for suggesting intrigue or some worldly importance. Driving, light, stop / start drama cut that features a flowing, galloping rhythm suggesting activity and forward movement. Starting with delayed harmonium and daf, the mix builds by adding delayed electric guitar, riq and reversed drum hits to create a full mix @:44 and again @1:21. Various breaks throughout create a dynamic, varied bed that is easily edited.
  • 22.
    Soldiers of God-Main Track-
    02:13
[Dark / Tense Driving] Good for tense standoffs and moments of escalating tension. Dramatic stop / start cue that begins with a slow, deep rhythm over droning wind instruments and synth pads, then builds with delayed militaristic drums, providing the impression of a huge army cresting a distant hill, intent on killing you. The mood elevates @1:07 and again @1:44, suggesting flurried activity, intrigue and suspense.
  • 23.
    Real Close-Main Track-
    02:34
[Building Drama / Suspense] Soft, touching background for emotional reunions or walking during dewy mornings. After a bed of solo men's / women's vocals, a drifting, laid-back feel starts @:17, featuring acoustic drums, electric guitar, synth pads and piano conveying bittersweet memories. @1:30 the vocal beds return, dissolving into a drum-free, softer, more feminine feeling starting @2:02. Good for emotionally driven stories, children in adult circumstances and Indie-minded productions in general.
  • 24.
    Vulnerable Clarity-Main Track-
    02:10
[Introspective / Spare Complex Neutral Bed] Sad, introspective cut that suggests walking along a deserted road. Slow tempoed, simple acoustic piano chord progression, synth pads and spare drums create a feeling of loneliness and isolation. @:51 an electric piano replaces the acoustic piano, giving the cut a more surreal feeling. Gets sparser @1:19 with added synth chords.
  • 25.
A Look Out the Window-Main Track-
    02:44
[Sad / Reflective] Slightly haunting, slightly hopeful. Starts atmospheric, with delayed synth keyboards over synth / organ pads and arpeggiated acoustic pianos. @:40 a driving feel, accented by snare rolls, slowly builds to a climax @1:10, restarting @1:19. Shifts to a more hopeful, pastoral mood @1:48 as a simple piano line over washy synth pads carries us to the end, letting us know all ends well.
  • 26.
    Lenas New Life-Main Track-
    02:05
[Atmospheric, Organically Mysterious / Restful] A childlike, simple piano figure over synth pads eventually gives way to acoustic guitar @:47, creating a folksy, atmospheric sheen useful for dreamlike events, flashbacks, slow pans of landscapes or dissolves of static shots. Feels mysterious, with brief suggestions of hope and peace.
  • 27.
    Dream Conflicted-Main Track-
    02:18
[Neutral Activity / Reflective] Neutral, but somewhat minor-themed Folk / Rock that could be used to convey light emotional drama. The cut starts with solo acoustic guitar, then adds synth pads and additional acoustic guitar @:12. An electric piano break @:53 gives the impression of time passing, returning to the main acoustic guitar theme with acoustic toms, adding an element of tension @1:18. Returns to acoustic guitar buildup (similar to cue's open) starting @1:47.
  • 28.
    Graduation Evening-Main Track-
    02:13
[Sad / Reflective Hope] Free-feeling, light cut appropriate for drives through the countryside and happy endings. Positive, light movement features see-saw piano figure that adds organ, women's "ahs" and, @:57, electric guitar and simple acoustic drums. @1:35 the cut takes a slightly more magical / mysterious feel as suspended / looped piano notes drone beneath the melody. After the last note @1:47, those suspended piano notes are featured alone to be used as a separate bed, if needed.
  • 29.
    Ancestors of the Damned-Main Track-
    02:00
[Dark Tension Building Suspense] Creepy, otherworldly and tense. A low drone beneath solo piano, harp, strings and beds of otherworldly voices climbs and builds into two dramatic, militaristic beds of percussion: once @1:00 and again @1:38. The second time around, the Gothic women's choir and the percussion is more forceful, lasts longer and features constant vocal / percussive hits that invite visual edits.
  • 30.
    First Battle-Main Track-
    02:23
[Fear Action Dark Fear] Need an instant jump from creepy to driving? Bleak, evil, disorienting backgrounds separate a pair of escalating levels of activity and tension. 1st level: @:44 a bed of bells accompanies percussive hits and horn rips. 2nd level: @1:02 a more driving, militaristic feel with snares builds to a Gothic horror climax @1:39. This cut is filled with brusque shocks and orchestral sound design. Great for anything involving a contest (of swords, guns or wills), cinematic action, or even science-fiction battles in space. Not for the weak-sphinctered.
  • 31.
    Recurring Nightmare-Main Track-
    01:52
[Building Suspense Sad Tension] A series of creepy builds / crescendos useful alone or for leading into other cuts. A swirling, evil atmosphere with metal hits, brief beds of bells, horn swells and poltergeist-like voices. Great for horror and tension.
  • 32.
    This is Gonna Hurt-Main Track-
    01:12
[Building Tension Explosive Payoff] Need a musical interpretation of ever-escalating panic and fear, later exploding in a ball of rage? Atmospheric bed of low-frequency drones builds linearly into a pounding, driving barrage of over-the-top hits that increase in volume, pitch and intensity, using choir, timpani, skin drums, metal hits and large found percussion. The pounding begins @:29. Super-useful for action-oriented movie trailers, meting out excessive punishment, or any exaggerated contest or cliffhanger.
  • 33.
    Loss-Main Track-
    03:01
[Sad, Gentle Hopeful] Reflective, slow-tempoed cut that is both beautiful and sad. Tinkly, reverbed piano notes over high string beds slowly grow in complexity, emotion and richness of instrumentation. @1:41 bells and finger cymbals add a hint of mysticism and wonder. @2:20 the cue winds down, returning again to solo piano notes and strings.
  • 34.
    Awakenings-Main Track-
    01:21
[Fear / Suspense Mounting Tension] Dreamlike and slightly tense, this cue begins with a distant woman's vocal and flashes of disorienting sound design. @:36, a waltz-like melody leads us into a quickly darkening mood, where choir, brass swells, reversed voices and low-frequency rumbles create a frightening crescendo to 1:08.
  • 35.
    Ambient Tension-Main Track-
    01:02
[Lurking Dread Suspense] A collection of discrete, short-but-tense builds. A variety of ways to communicate that something big, dark and dangerous is out there. Ranging from distant pounding @:08, to chaotic string / brass swells @:17, to a brass / cymbal swell @:37 and :55.
  • 36.
    Final Hunt-Main Track-
    01:06
[Dark, Over-the-top Action] Action-filled, pounding horror cut that features two percussive beds. The first opens the cut with driving strings, tom hits, metal percussion and choir / brass swells. A dissonant screeching build @:23 leads to the second percussive bed, which builds by adding more instruments until a horrific crescendo climaxes @1:04. Great for tense chases, over-the-top investigations, military activity and fast cutting.
