Album tracklist
  • 1.
    An American Man-Main Track-
    02:32
[SCORE: An American Man] [EPIC, STIRRING, SWEEPING] Love! Honor! Romance! This one's all heart, opening with lush, sweeping strings, then becoming intimate @ :22. Big, emotional strings tie a train to your heartstrings @:46 and become tender @:55. Gets almost sad and solemn around 1:47. Good for epic romances, quests of the heart or personal journeys. Also good for patriotism or anything involving the words 'ultimate sacrifice'.
  • 2.
    Coronation-Main Track-
    02:03
[SCORE: An American Man] [PROUD, WARM PAGEANTRY] The happy ending. This proud, stirring and emotional orchestral piece puts you at a medal ceremony / heartfelt reunion / presidential inauguration / a parade. Starts small, newsy and light, building in swells to the big moment @:27 when the full orchestra enters and you can imagine the camera panning off the face of the hero to reveal cheering multitudes. Dramatic section @:56 reminds us of the obstacles along the way. Gets sweet and wistful @1:25. Big hits @1:55 let you know it's credit-rolling time.
  • 3.
    Making the Difference-Main Track-
    01:35
[SCORE: An American Man] [INSPIRATIONAL, PRESIDENTIAL-FEELING IMPORTANCE] The courage of American leadership, with a heart. After an introductory flourish, the proud, expansive main theme (in @:14) enters, with an almost Western tinge. This is the music that would accompany a montage of a typical day in the presidency: going from the situation room to a photo op with the elderly to making time with family to studying a complicated bill. Good for giving something a sense of importance, but still keeping it human. Hits its high point @:55, betrays a bit of sacrifice @1:08 and ends warmly and happily.
  • 4.
    Opportunity in Crisis-Main Track-
    02:04
[SCORE: An American Man] [RISING TENSIONS] 'Get me the Russians, now!' This uptempo news bed meets movie trailer is a tense, stressful cue perfect for dramatic moments of crisis. Has distinct Cold War flavor. Full orchestra and choir makes any subject instantly hot-line worthy. Choir, in @:23, gives the piece a Russian / Eastern European flavor perfect for contrasting shots. Takes break @:56, then builds to full "Tanks are crossing Poland" drama and ends definitively @2:00.
  • 5.
    Pensivity-Main Track-
    02:44
[SCORE: An American Man] [LUSH THOUGHTFULNESS] Slow, pastoral strings full of gravitas set the stage for seriously deep thinking. Brings to mind a widescreen shot of the president alone at his desk late at night, struggling to find a solution to some pressing issue. Becomes more determined feeling @1:21. Good for anything involving soul-searching.
  • 6.
    Legacy of Honor-Main Track-
    01:28
[SCORE: An American Man] [PROUD HEROISM] Full orchestra and emotional choir tell the story of brave men and women who gave everything to their country or cause. Starts with main theme in @:08, yielding to a more emotional section @:25 going all the way to a big fanfare-esque finish @1:12. Good for WWII movies, emotional homecomings, personal triumphs or victory after great sacrifice.
  • 7.
    True Leadership-Main Track-
    02:21
[SCORE: An American Man] [CLASSIC, PROUD FANFARE] First :20 is a big, almost magical fanfare that segues into a majestic trumpet-led theme @:25. Rest of the orchestra joins in @:38, adding to the pride-fest. Choir enters @:52 ratcheting up the glory even more. Good for the Olympics, fancy sports (sailing, tennis, golf) - or pretty much anything with the word 'classic' in it. Works for event television and is so straight it would also work for parodies. Kicks back in @2:01 for a big finish.
  • 8.
    Mastering the Problem-Main Track-
    01:57
[SCORE: Conquering Probability] [INTIMATE WARMTH -> POWERFUL PRIDE] An emotional journey through the mind. Emotive strings and harp set the stage for an impenetrable problem to be solved. @:28, a door opens to another world, with fast-flowing piano and strings suggesting a storm of numbers or data floating ever faster across the screen. A choir enters @:48, heightening the drama. Becomes stronger with flowing strings and French horn @1:10 suggesting an urgency to whatever it is that needs to be solved. Final building starts @1:33, growing and building to the final hit @1:52. All-around useful for drama, superheroes, fantasy, game shows or sports.
  • 9.
    Ocean of Equations-Main Track-
    01:41
[SCORE: Conquering Probability] [EPIC ADVENTURE / INSPIRATIONAL FANTASY] Dramatic and eventually inspirational, this track takes you on a journey across the hidden depths of the universe. A taut sense of anticipation begins the piece, holding the ropes tight until:33 when flowing arpeggios and active percussion let loose the metaphorical sails. Takes a turn for the emotional @:48, slowly building up and swelling to a massive finish @1:34. Subtle electronic elements keep this one sounding modern, while not overwhelming the track. Good for journeys, news, evoking a sense of vastness, and anything ending with "so set a course for adventure".
  • 10.
    Leaving the Known Lands-Main Track-
    01:31
[SCORE: Conquering Probability] [BITTERSWEET DETERMINATION] This is for that scene in every movie where the hero leaves his hometown and loved ones behind, with a steely determination to conquer whatever it is that needs conquering. Longing looks back start us off, leading to resolve @:33. Gets briefly nostalgic @:44, then renews its determination @:51, getting bigger with a bed or dogged, insistent percussion. Gets epic and inspirational @1:15. Instrumentation is full orchestra, choir and subtle electronics.
  • 11.
    Inspiration Strikes-Main Track-
    02:14
[SCORE: Conquering Probability] [DELICATE, THOUGHTFUL -> ROUSING] A piece in two parts: the "I'm-working-on-something-here" montage, and the "Holy-Crap-I've Got-It!" moment. Starts slightly pensive and lonely, like someone alone with his thoughts on a dark night. Slowly, strings, percussion, a woman's voice (@:44) and other elements join in, creating a sense of informational progress. @1:25 is the "Eureka!" moment, when all the clues suddenly come into sharp focus. From that moment, determined horns and percolating strings lend an air of significance and magnitude to the discovery.
  • 12.
    Elegant Solution-Main Track-
    01:22
[SCORE: Conquering Probability] [CLASSIC DRAMA WITH A FRESH TOUCH] Modern Melodrama. Timeless orchestral flourishes from :06 to :15 set the stage for the big reveal of the solution or the adventure of a lifetime. The piece continues with a conveyor-belt like bed of percolating/processed/chopped strings, subtle electronics, and old-school French horns, all to create a compelling old/new hybrid that doesn't shout its newness. Good for adventure, corporate uses or when science triumphs over all.
  • 13.
    Elegant Solution-Alternative Version-
    01:02
[SCORE: Conquering Probability] [INFORMATIONAL FLOWING STRINGS] Modern progressive bed of strings good for news, communications, or evoking a sense of progress. Flowing and continually evolving, this piece takes a brief pause from :28-:31, returning even more unwaveringly positive.
  • 14.
    Conquering Probability-Main Track-
    01:34
[SCORE: Conquering Probability] [UPLIFTING, EMOTIONAL, INSPIRING] The sweet taste of hard-earned victory. @:06 flourish sets the tone for an ever-building track good for sports, competitions, news, and adventure / fantasy. Swells with pulsing strings to :27, when that section repeats, soon joined by a solo violin playing the emotional theme. Full orchestra crashes in @:52, with staccato horns picking up the opening theme @1:06 and driving to the unstoppable finale @1:32. Like winning a gold medal, finding the lost ark or opening a door to another world.
  • 15.
    Conquering Probability-Alternative Version-
    01:28
[SCORE: Conquering Probability] [POSITIVE MOTION IN A SUPPORTING ROLE] Jumps right in with pulsing strings and piano accents, setting the stage for a smaller kind of victory. Sustained horns and light modern percussion, in @:27, keep things fresh, while bigger horns @:46 keep things growing. Good for corporate and possibly family adventure or fantasy.
  • 16.
Break Out the Boom Boom-Main Track-
    02:25
[SCORE: Break Out the Boom Boom] [SASSY, INDIE NOISE-POP] This dirty, uptempo, fun and attitudinal track is what happens when you take modern crime show music and mash it with bratty cheerleaders fronting an indie-noise band. Distorted girly vocals with fizzy guitars announce that you've just found the best party in LA. Drums kick in @:12, then track gets a little more serious @:36 when we notice the sexy, but seamy, undercurrents hanging out in the corners. Gets dirty again @:54 with guitars and claps A breakdown @1:06 sets up an 80s-esque section @1:30 with more synths and 'ooooo' background vocals. Dramatic horn stabs build to a release @1:56, then ends with a bang. Good for sports, fashion, makeovers, school spirit (ironic or not), and fast cutting.
  • 17.
    Break Out the Boom Boom-Instrumental-
    02:25
[SCORE: Break Out the Boom Boom] Like the original, but without the vocals. Still extra sassy, dirty, and fun. Good for parties, parties gone wrong, and getting busted at those parties.
  • 18.
    Cheerleading Crime Fighters-Main Track-
    01:43
[SCORE: Break Out the Boom Boom] [CHEEKY, STYLISH INDIE NOISE-POP] This track is trendy, chic and ready for action - as soon as it gets its mascara on. Opens with attitudinal girl vocals, crunching guitars and banging drums, then is joined by an official police horn section and orchestral hits @:17. Go get yourself sexily handcuffed @:49, then bust out of the cruiser @1:14. Would work for teen shows, hipper makeovers, sports, cheerleading crime fighters or selling anything with a wink.
  • 19.
    Cheerleading Crime Fighters-Instrumental-
    01:43
[SCORE: Break Out the Boom Boom] As above, no vocals, but more generically useful. Cheeky power-pop-punk with dramatic horns make this one good for sports, action movies with a comedic tone, makeovers or cheerleading crime fighters.
  • 20.
    I Wanna-Main Track-
    02:10
[SCORE: Break Out the Boom Boom] [BROOKLYN INDIE ROCK MEETS A PEP RALLY] Vocal "ohs" start piece, with a big "I wanna" line in @:26. Processed guitars throughout create an aggressive, but fun, tone. Breaks down completely @1:08, but builds to an almost marching-band like section @1:38. Good for sass, attitude and sassitude.
  • 21.
    I Wanna-Instrumental-
    02:10
[SCORE: Break Out the Boom Boom] Brooklyn indie-pop meets pep rally after the cheerleaders have left. Good for sports, launches or even hipper corporate stuff. Would be easy for your VO guy/gal to tag themselves.
  • 22.
    Monumental Self Pity-Main Track-
    02:55
[SCORE: Break Out the Boom Boom] [ATMOSPHERIC SOLITUDE] Abandonment and loneliness settle down in this slow-tempoed, almost ambient cut. Atmospheric guitars, spare vocal textures, and forlorn processed horns give voice to the overly-dramatic 16-year-old in all of us. Evocative of rain-slicked nights, montages of solitary thoughts or quiet walks. Strings and horn @:40 add another layer of drama. Gets surprisingly big from 1:56 to 2:08. Returns to main theme @2:12 with bigger percussion. Reflective, sad and despondent.
  • 23.
    Monumental Self Pity-Instrumental-
    02:55
[SCORE: Break Out the Boom Boom] Even lonelier and more spare, with plenty of space to brood. Also reflective, sad and despondent.
  • 24.
    Seen At the Scene-Main Track-
    02:44
[SCORE: Break Out the Boom Boom] [STREETWISE FUNK] More dramatically slinky funkitude than you can handle. Shouting, claps and breathless girl group vocals create a sexy, attitude-filled party-in-the-street scene, until :19, when a deep funk groove enters. Picture a 70s detective putting the moves on 90s R&B girl groups, all remixed by a 2010s DJ. Takes a turn for the dramatic, with a buildup around 1:16 until a new, and awesomely slinky, groove enters @1:21. Starts winding down around 2:19, but leaves you with a series of dynamic horn hits. Useful for investigations or when you need sassy, sexy attitude delivered in a modern, funky package.
  • 25.
    Seen At the Scene-Instrumental-
    02:44
[SCORE: Break Out the Boom Boom] As above, without all those people yelling and singing. More of a straight funk-piece good for sassy, slinky anything.
  • 26.
    Teen Girl Detective Squad-Main Track-
    02:24
[SCORE: Break Out the Boom Boom] Unique bipolar cut where 70s cop show music meets cheerleading beats meets melancholy arty girl vocals. Opens thoughtful and slightly tense before opening up into a free jam @:28 when the game show horns come in. Gets all depressed again around :52 as the mix collapses back to vocals and keyboard, then builds itself back up again. Useful for movie marathons, fun mysteries, investigations or image spots.
  • 27.
    Teen Girl Detective Squad-Instrumental-
    02:24
[SCORE: Break Out the Boom Boom] Somehow less bipolar and more fun than the original. Upbeat drums, game show horns and rampant clapping provide a good contrast to thoughtful sections beginning @:52.
  • 28.
    Off Kilter Jaunt-Main Track-
    01:59
[SCORE: The Puppet Condition] [QUIRKY, WHIMSICAL] An, odd, eccentric outing into an slightly-off reality, featuring hurdy gurdy-ish accordion, organ, cello and mellotron. Good for surreal, carnival-esque moments, adult themes packaged in children's dressings and puppet shows. Vaguely French or Italian-sounding theme enters @:21, adding a slightly melancholy tone to the proceedings. Breaks around :58 and 1:05 provide good in / out points. Also good for daydreaming.
  • 29.
    Puppet Love-Main Track-
    02:05
[SCORE: The Puppet Condition] [INDIE/ART-SCHOOL ROMANCE] Floaty strings and balloon-ish bass evoke daydreams and clouds floating by, as reflected in your eye. New psychedelic theme @:57 enters out of nowhere to confuse everything. You can almost hear the little puppet gears turning in their noggins. A quick perspective shift @1:22 brings us back to romance-land, but with a tender reflectiveness and introspection.
  • 30.
    Dollhouse Intrigue-Main Track-
    01:23
[SCORE: The Puppet Condition] [OFFBEAT, DARKLY COMEDIC INTRIGUE]. This cut conjures up images of dolls doing very, very bad things to each other in stop motion once their owner has left the room. Has a vague conveyor-belt feel, as if something is pulling one of the dolls inexorably towards murder. At least that's just me. Forget it - you try to describe this one. Good for dark comedies, misfits or domestic uneasiness.
  • 31.
    Puppet Deathmask-Main Track-
    01:59
[SCORE: The Puppet Condition] [ARTY, UNEASY DARK COMEDY MUSIC] Distorted mellotron mixed with pizziCato (ASCAP) strings, vibes, bass and piano creates an air of slow unraveling, leading to an ultimately tragic outcome. Gets psychedelic / flashback-y @:27, then builds to a transition @:52. You can almost picture the slow pan across a grungy funeral parlor, finally settling on the lifeless puppet face of our tragic hero. Gets extra dark from 1:24. Good for being gently eerie or disturbing.
  • 32.
    Imperfect Substitute-Main Track-
    01:25
[SCORE: The Puppet Condition] [OFF-KILTER, QUIRK] Subtly troubling music for building things that just aren't quite right. Mellotron flutes, stabby piano + pizziCato (ASCAP) strings score the well-intended construction of something that will never be as good as the original. In this story, it's when the love-struck living puppet tries to resurrect the other, and sort-of succeeds, creating a creepily endearing facsimile of her dead puppet lover. Good for hinting at the flaws beneath a perfect surface.
  • 33.
    Plastic Candy Land-Main Track-
    02:43
[SCORE: The Puppet Condition] [FORCED HAPPINESS] Happy, bouncy music that somehow manages to be unsettling, and vaguely disturbing. Psychedelic mellotron and processed strings create a sense of whimsy undercut by a larger compromise. Hermetically sealed under a dome forever, our puppets can enjoy everlasting happiness of a sort. Useful for happy, creepy things.
  • 34.
    Season of Champions-Main Track-
    01:56
[SCORE: Season Of Champions] [TIMELESS EPIC ORCHESTRAL THEME] A duel for the ages, ending in overwhelming triumph. A determined French horn calls the troops to action, supported by pulsing strings and subtle electronics. Takes a huge percussion break @1:04, then gets huge-ier @1:19 with massive horns, then huge-iest @1:29 with more choir as it bombasts its way to the final hit @1:49. Great for superheroes, competitions, action, and sports (especially NFL / football).
  • 35.
    Playing Through the Pain-Main Track-
    02:08
[SCORE: Season Of Champions] [REFLECTIVE SADNESS -> RESOLVE / STRENGTH]. Begins as a sad and introspective string piece, then resolves @:34 that it will prevail. The piece then grows slowly, and inspiringly, all the way to the end with big percussion and massive orchestra filling things out. The break at 1:10 and brass fanfare @1:14 herald the comeback of the warrior. Great for sports, inspiring speeches, one man against all odds, or any story where somebody overcomes something.
  • 36.
    No More Chances-Main Track-
    01:07
[SCORE: Season Of Champions] [SADNESS AND DEFEAT] This plaintive and emotional string quartet adagio tells the story of crushing loss. This is what should be played as the losers walk off the field after the Superbowl, Olympics, or World Cup (right before they're murdered by overly-angry, disappointed fans). Good for humanizing the depths of defeat, pity parties, and tributes to those we've lost, including people murdered by overly-angry, disappointed fans.
  • 37.
    Overly Dramatic Comeback-Main Track-
    01:36
[SCORE: Season Of Champions] [DEFEAT -> RESOLVE -> MASSIVE VICTORY] This ever-building orchestral track follows one warrior on the path from defeat to victory. Starts with a brass-driven theme for the downtrodden, then dramatically changes gears @:33 when forceful, determined strings and percussion enter. This is where the training montage begins (you need a montage), and by 1:20 we're ready for the final showdown. Cut the spotlights on the final hit @1:32.
  • 38.
    Navigating the Impossible-Main Track-
    01:49
[SCORE: Season Of Champions] [ELEGANT TIMELAPSE / FANTASY] Powerful, evolving orchestral piece evocative of someone or something managing impossible obstacles at 1/10th speed, like gracefully weaving around ten defenders on the pitch or driving through rain, snow, and blazing heat. Gets more dynamic @:35 with horns and much more propulsive strings. Becomes more prideful @1:11 building to climaxes @1:38 and 1:45. Great for slow motion or time lapse footage, fantasy, or children's adventure.
  • 39.
    We Are Warriors-Main Track-
    01:40
[SCORE: Season Of Champions] [CLASSIC BATTLE / CONFRONTATION] Soaring, epic, orchestral achievement through battle. Classic face-off music good for confrontations between armies, politicians, sports (especially football) teams or spouses. Builds straight to a climax @:30 after setting the stage for combat. Becomes more soul-stirring and inspiring, esp. @:54 and 1:16, when syncopated strings really help the piece take off. Grows in complexity and activity @1:04 when the piece is in full swing. If this piece doesn't make you want to go and heroically deliver a beatdown to all in your edit bay, nothing will.
